A skilled migrant is someone who has relevant skills, knowledge, work experience and qualifications to meet the skill needs of a host country. Other factors taken into account include age, health, relevant language proficiency, and character requirements. For countries seeking skilled migrants, the motivation is to fill specific skill shortages whilst sustaining and growing the local economy. For migrants, motivations vary depending on circumstances; many wish to leave their homeland to seek better working conditions, employment opportunities, income and security.
